Has anyone heard of Pure O, also known as purely obsessional, OCD? It is a form of OCD marked by intrusive, unwanted, and uncontrollable thoughts, but often is unoccupied by ritual behavior. If you are familiar, what's the best way to address/treat this?

Yup! Pure O is 100% real and valid! I also know that sometimes those with Pure O perform mental compulsions like repeating words in their heads or Googling something over and over.

@spungo it's not the exact same. People with "Pure O" may not engage in obvious behaviors related to their intrusive thoughts, such as counting, arranging, or hand-washing, the disorder is instead accompanied by hidden/unseen mental rituals.

@squidish I was diagnosed and now I am doing cognitive exercises with my therapist . It’s very tricky definitely going to take time hoping it will work .

I think the treatment would be exposure therapy, I’m not 100% sure though

I was diagnosed with this! My psychiatrist said it’s a newer way to diagnose OCD when the intrusive thoughts are frequent but the repetitive behavior isn’t there. I’ve found almost any antidepressant helps keep the thoughts to a minimum which su really nice. The mind is so much quieter.

I have this form of Ocd but if I'm being honest I have never heard the term pure ocd. It's nice to put a name to it. I am on meds which help. Distraction & avoiding triggers are short term remedies. Research exposure therapy, that's used a lot but can be very scary at first & you should probably consult a doctor.

Pure O is a subtype but you can have other subtypes with it.

I have OCD as well and sometimes I get intrusive, unwanted thoughts. What I do is try to distract myself with something I enjoy doing.

You're definitely not alone there is a really great autobiography called "Pure" that helped me a lot.
