I'm currently going though ptsd specific counseling and the first thing they go over is basically to avoid avoidance. I've found that a physiological sigh also helps greatly. It was discovered in 1930 and acts as a similar system reset like the ice bucket challenge but for stress.

I try to avoid triggers, but when they are unavoidable, I use mindful breathing, nature walk, self talk, distraction, and if I’m home, some snuggles with my dogs.

Deep breaths and then I usually call someone for a distraction until I feel safe again or I am somewhere I can work through why I was triggered.
