Has anyone found anything that helps with PTSD or anxiety-induced nightmares? Despite my medication, during times of high stress I get nightmares nightly and wake up exhausted (despite technically being asleep for a long time).

I hate to be that person, but the only thing that has helped me so far is cannabis šŸ‘€ Iā€™m not a social smoker, I just vape before bed and it helps me sleep more deeply and calmly about 70% of the time. I still get nightmares every now and then, but a lot less often. I also havenā€™t had any sleep paralysis since I started taking cannabis.

Im tired of drugs and this is what I do. Right before bed if I know Iā€™m super stressed- my husband cuddles with me while doing breathing exercises, with dim lights, soft calming music playing, and if I want itā€™s a time to talk about what I was about to have nightmares about.

My psychiatrist prescribed prazosin for my nightmares and it worked amazing. Can make you dizzy if you don't drink enough water with it though since it is a blood thinner (but a much lower dose than what is used for that purpose). Doctors still don't know why it works and I think it's still considered experimental for treatment of PTSD, but it worked very well for me and I might go back on it soon since my nightmares have come back

My therapist helped me with ā€œnightmare rescriptingā€. Iā€™ve had nightmares since I was a child and this worked like magic! I would recommend this to anyone with the help of a therapist. ā¤ļø
