Dealing with Overactive Bladder: Seeking Advice

Inconvenience… awful, expensive, makes me anxious, never sure of leakage. Help. How is everyone coping? Are there good medicines to help with overactive bladder? Bedtime is a nightmare. I’m always wet in morning! Interested in everyone with this DX. Thank you kindly…KDouglas

Amazon has bed pads. We purchased a couple every month until we have 8. They are cloth, comfortable. I find now that I have been dealing w/this for over 5 years: I drink a lot of water. Honestly my bladder spasms less when it is being used all the time I always carry pads in bags or my purse. When I was first struggling w/this, I tucked an extra pad in the waist band of my pants. Then I wasn't caught w/o a pad when needed and walking was an issue as well. I stop drinking ANY kind of caffeine by 4 pm. All my close people know. Usually I am able to take care of everything when out in public. This week, I was away from home and with my mom on a medical trip. I made it to the bathroom only for bladder and sphincters to let go before I got my pants down 😡😡😡 I called out to my mom who came w/my bag and due to constraints in the stall, I needed help to change w/my braces etc. I also had a coworker I could trust. To grab my stiff and help w/brace and shoes. Always buy the long, super absorbency. We all have days that are terrible, play around w/other sizes for light days. Remember to take. It easy on yourself. I also learned, a lot more women in their 40's are needing incontinence products than I ever thought!!!

I will be 45 in 2 weeks. I have been wearing Incontinence pads sinve i was 37. After getting totally embarrassed when i peed myself at a court house i discussed it with my dr. He wrote me a prescription & i get pads delivered to my house once a month & my medicaid pays for it. I wear a pad 24/7 no lie. Its less embarrassing than peeing yours in public.

wow. I didn’t realize you could get pads paid for! I’ve been wearing them 24/7 for at least 15 years.

I totally understand how you are feeling! Overactive bladder is no fun! I hate the fact that I am always scanning where the bathrooms are before I feel comfortable getting engaged with talking in social situations like getting together with friends or going out to eat. My best advice…. Always come prepared. Wear pads daily and have long, ultimate bladder leak pads in your purse. Also have a cute bag you can carry with you with a few extra pads, pants or shorts, wipes, and whatever you need. There is a medication called Solifenacin, which is the generic for Vesicare. This medication helped me immensely. I was able to take it for one month but then it required a pre-authorization. ☹️ Lastly, take the time to investigate with a Dr. if there is a way to fix or explain the overactive bladder. I found out about having folds in my bladder and waiting extra time in the bathroom because my bladder was not emptying fully. There is also something called Pelvic Floor Therapy. I will be checking this therapy out soon. Wishing you the best!

Great idea! I seem to have a large amount at one time. Sometimes…actually, most times… embarrassing volume = leakage!!!!
