Cold and nose bleeds… I got a pretty nasty cold this week, and since it is SO DRY in my nose and everything, I got a really bad nose bleed last night and had to go to urgent care and was told to get Afrin. Thanks cold. I hated the feeling of the bleed it would not stop gushing in my throat. Anyone else get this? I am being evaluated specifically for Vascular EDS because of a genetic variant in many of my family members with said vascular EDS symptoms, more mild but probably due to their history of high blood pressure and need for beta blockers young. I had COVID a year ago, and this happened some during that cold with nose bleeds but tbh I tried not to blow my nose after like two so it never happened again + used vaseline so I’m thinking that would be the money. I wonder how many of you all have had this experience? I’m sure its more common in people with EDS since our connective tissue (and especially my blood vessels) is so fragile. Not an experience I would want for anyone else because its kinda freaky knowing you’re losing so much blood so close to your brain…even if it doesn’t work like that. I definitely don’t want it cauterized I just want it to naturally go away and soon. Also wondering who else has fallen to this cold?! Summer virus, not COVID, gave me pink eye in one eye, goes to lungs and causes bronchitis, and starts in the throat and causes pain there for like almost a whole week. Sucky.

Drink lots and lots of water, that’s been the biggest help for me. I also use coconut oil instead of Vaseline.

Afrin is addictive and will dry out your nasal passages and make your chances of getting a nose bleed worse.

@coolsciencechic Well, I’m using it with saline and vaseline and I consulted a doctor. My chances of addiction are fairly low I’d say with family history, and I know all the risks. It is a vasoconstrictor, and with how bad my nose bleeds have been I’d take my chances honestly. Don’t worry, it was advised by a doctor to use.

When I was in elementary school I had my nose cauterized as well because I had so many long nose bleeds

When I was a baby I had to get my nose cauterized because I would have nose bleeds every single for no reason at all. And after that I haven’t had nose bleeds for a long time. EDS messes with everything

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with nosebleeds and colds. It's not uncommon for people with certain conditions, such as EDS, to have more fragile blood vessels and be prone to nosebleeds. Using a humidifier and applying Vaseline can help keep the nasal passages moist and reduce the risk of nosebleeds. It's important to consult with your doctor for personalized advice and recommendations based on your specific situation.
