Dealing with Nausea and Emetophobia

how do you deal with nausea? i have emetophobia so every time im nauseous it makes me super anxious which makes me more nauseous. im on one med (mirtazipine) that is supposed to help OCD anxiety and guanfacine which is supposed to help POTS and physical anxiety symptoms. im at my wits end with nausea and would take pain over it any day.

So I don’t have emetophobia but I take compazine for my chronic nausea and eat peppermints religiously. I also have motion sickness patches but I got those more so for the dizziness associated with pots cuz it’s one of my worst symptoms

I eat Gin Gins 24/7 to deal with nausea. That and I keep little alcohol wipes on me to sniff. Those really help me since my meds make me nauseous all the time

I also have emetophobia and chronic nausea, so I totally understand where you’re coming from. It feels like an endless loop where I get nausea from anxiety, and then I get more anxious because I’m afraid to throw up, which in turn makes me more nauseous. I hate it 😥. I missed my entire freshman year of high school because of this, and I was diagnosed with functional dyspepsia. There’s a medication called FDguard that is supposed to help. I haven’t tried it, but for me trazodone helped lower my anxiety which helps lower my nausea

The only thing that has really helped my nausea has been Phenergan. It can make you drowsy though so I'd only do that on a really bad day that you would stay home anyway unless you have had it and don't fall asleep. I do just fine but my mom just sleeps for hours.

I have emetophobia too, as well as chronic nausea. It's definitely difficult. Have you tried ERP for the emetophobia? It's really the only thing that's helped me. And for the chronic nausea, I try ginger chews (which don't really work), deep breathing, and humming to try to get it to pass. Also peppermint essential oils.

My personal experience with severe nausea caused by anxiety has always been calmed with Xanax. I only take it as needed and I take 1mg. I also try my hardest to distract myself the best I can with a show or talking with a family member. I eventually end up forgetting I was sick to my stomach, and the Xanax makes it much easier to just close my eyes and take a nap if I am able to.
