Dealing with Migraines and Anxiety

Hi, Jdub69 ! I only get them a few times a year, but when I get them, they’re no joke. I think I get them less, as I age, and also because I medicate so well, to begin with. Mine are without aura, but our child suffers with aura. So much so, that if all meds aren’t given immediately, and the vomiting begins, we have to go to the ER for I.V. fluids because it gets so bad.

Hi! I took the Imitrex a few times. The pill didn’t work and my doc ordered the sq injection. I had a horrible reaction to it Andes up in the ICU in SVT. They tried me on Inderal, Ubrelbvy, Nurtec and finally I got started on Botox. I got my first Botox shots the first week of September and so far I have only had 1 migraine so far since then. Before that I had an average of 20 headache days a month. I am pleased with my relief so far.

Dang @SM that's a lot at once to get relief, I feel for you!! How often do you get migraines? Do you have aura with yours also?

LoonyLori95… Yes, the calming component in Fioricet, is Butalbital. They sell it with caffeine and acetaminophen and that’s what Fioricet is. Essentially Excedrin, but instead of aspirin, they add Butalbital as a relaxant.

Imitrex never worked for my raging migraines, with vomiting. The only thing that has ever helped, is 3 Fioricet, 1mg Ativan and 25mg Phenergan. Yes, that’s how bad they are, when I get them. My aunts on my dad’s side, suffer from them, as does my teen. Fioricet is an old school migraine med. not many people know about it. I’m surprised they even still make it. All I know, is that I definitely always have my prescriptions filled, in case of those excruciating migraines.

When I first feel or see the aura, I take an over the counter headache medicine. It is called Goody's. It is a powder that you dissolve on the tongue and begins working immediately. It contains 325 mg Tylenol/500mg aspirin/ 65mg caffeine. If it's not easing after 15 minutes I take my emergency meds. I'm currently on butalbital. But the Goody's does help keep it from increasing if it doesn't get rid of it completely.

I have been taking it for years.....even gor on the injection version. I works great for me

I can't take imitrex but I was put o. Topamax for my migraines and that worked really well for years. It didn't stop them all but the ones that did sneak through were less severe and more easy to manage.

Imitrex worked well for me. But when I couldn't get it I had to find something else. I've had multiple types of migraines for almost 30yrs and that includes what they now call aura migraine (when I was diagnosed it was called complex) mine include numbness and paralysis of one side like having a stroke (which they thought it was the first time I had this type...21 and pregnant) I've found that you learn to feel a different way in your head and body before it hits. Once you recognize that feeling try: 1 aspirin, 1 acetophenone (Tylenol), 1 ibuprofen and take that with at least 8oz of something caffeinated (I like coffee cuz I feel it dissolves the meds on the way down but that's just my messy brain lol)

Imitrex works amazing for me if I take it the second I feel any of the migraine symptoms. If I wait even 20 min past that it will usually make the headache worse. I suffer from migraine with auras and cluster headaches and this drug helps me fight not being able to function for days. Once you find the best drug for you the auras will diminish slowly

I have had migraines for almost 30 years. Imitrex does help if you take it at onset of aura. I was on it for a few years now I am on another similar med. I can only say keep open dialog w your care team also ask about maintenance medication. I have been on all oral and injection on the market; 2 weeks ago I had my 1st Botox injection.

Hopefully it works well for you!! I have seen 4 neurologists, now I am seeing a “Headache Specialist” at my state’s University Hospital. She is only a PRN and has been more helpful than any of the neurologists I have seen.

I hope this med works for me! You have a migraine doctor, is it a neurologist or is there an actual headache doctor? What title do they go by? @chronicallyfab

Hi! I have tried a number of medications and of course everyone’s migraine experience is different but I have found that a combination of a preventative medication and an emergency medication works best for me. I have used Aimovig and Ajovy injections and am about to start Emgality. Without medication I have around 24 migraine days a month, with Aimovig and Ajovy I had around 8-12 migraine days a month. I’m seeing a new headache specialist who wanted to see if I would have any better luck with Emgality. I used to take Relpax as an emergency medication and it seemed to work well but made me feel weak. I recently learned that I have hemiplegic migraines, so I cannot take triptans, so I am on Nurtec as my emergency med now. It’s really important to take good notes about your migraine symptoms, I used MigraineBuddy app to help me determine my consistent symptoms and it helped me communicate with my doctor more clearly so they could determine potential treatment. Don’t be afraid to try other treatments like avoiding certain foods, using OTC medications like ibuprofen and excedrin, using heat and ice, and utiziling a TENS unit on the neck and shoulders to alleviate pain. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this, please know there’s a massive community of us who understand what you are going through and you are not alone. Sending hugs 💕

I find it hard to determine if my headache is a migraine without the aura, it hurts but I'm new to them so I don't know the difference in different headaches

I've been suffering from migraines for many years. It changes all the time. There are periods where I have aura and periods that I experience it a lot less….Imitrex works wonders for me. Usually after one pill and sometimes after two, the migraine goes away
