Dealing with Interstitial Cystitis: Coping Strategies

Just got diagnosed with IC. Relieved I know what it is, but kinda lame since mines pretty bad. Supposed to be on 3 different medications to help with pain & comfort. How do you deal / cope with it? My first thought was that I’m just going to have to have to deal with this kind of pain for the rest of my life.

theyre starting me on Nortriptyline & Valium for the IC and Clindamycin for the current UTI (ive been getting them every month for the past year and a half, seeing if itd help it go away faster since they keep giving me so much Ciprofloxacin and wanted to try something new for relief). I have been using Tramadol for the past week & a half to tie me over while i had to keep going to the doctors to figure out what was wrong. id say for sure the Tramadol helps a lot to help keep me sleeping and not waking up to pee, but I was advised to stop taking it once i received the 3 medications i listed. It kinda helps with pain management since my flares are pretty severe even without trigger foods. it does make my appetite disappear though. Will try to remember to update again once ive been on the new medication for awhile. honestly i used to be pretty hesitant taking medication, but once i find that it helps im all for it. I wont hesitate to completely stop one though if it doesnt make me feel well / worse than what i was feeling before taking it (unless its an antibiotic).

I’m so sorry you have to deal with this. IC is no fun. What meds are they giving you, out of curiosity?. I’m on no meds for my IC and I’m wondering if I should change that.
