I was just recently diagnosed with IBS, and suffer from anxiety, depression and panic attacks. My doctor said that a lot of people with anxiety/depression also have IBS. Anyone else in the same boat?

Sadly IBS and anxiety go hand in hand and anxiety usually causes flare ups. My IBS is always the worst when I'm flying somewhere because of the extreme stress.

I have anxiety, depression, IBS and panic disorder and my IBS was diagnosed during a time when I had a super high stress job so it definitely coincides. Sometimes, doctors will even try to prescribe Xanax for IBS

I started having symptoms of IBS during a really toxic relationship. Now it feels like my stress/anxiety triggers symptoms every time.

Me! I also suffer from anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and fibromyalgia. With years I understood that my mind and body are working together :/

I also suffer from anxiety and IBS. My stomach hurts the most during stress and sadness. I read that the reason my mood influences my pain is because the colon is in part controlled by the nervous system, which responds to stress. Another explanation was that the immune system, that also responds to stress, also plays a role. Hope that was helpful

Yup, I have ADHD, depression, OCD, and anxiety and have been struggling with IBS since I was about 12 I think. Like the above poster said, mind and gut health are closely linked. I know stress/anxiety is a big trigger for my IBS, though it's definitely not the only one.

I have IBS too. The stomach is very sensitive to emotions, so it is possible that mental issues can inflame aches and other belly issues. It works also vice versa: aches and body illness can cause symptoms such as depression and anxiety. One can strengthen the other, even if it was only in potential.

Yes I believe it is somewhat true. Mind and gut health really go hand in hand. Mine was brought up by my removal of my gallbladder but I had subtle signs when I was younger in middle school and high school.
