Ive had migraines since 1/6/1992, 6 straight days, then 50% of my life until chemo 2001 then down to 5%. Then they tried a shot of Lupron 2002 and 100% after that for years. Then cancer again 2020 and 3x a day after that. Edrm therapy worked to bring it back down to 1x a day. Best answer that i have is get prescription meds. From personal experience and from research, the longer you let a migraine go, the harder it is to stop or slow the next one. Imitrex worked/works for me and almost always takes it away in 1 hour. There are recently even more med choices nowadays. Dont suffer in pain. Get your life back. So much easier to deal with when you know that you wont feel like chopping your head off in just an hour. Ps. Having numerous surgeries etc after having migraines. I have learned, push the surgeon to allow your migraine meds before surgery. If i have a migraine going in, i will find it unrelentless for the weeks/months after. Coversely, no migraine going into surgery and no issues later. There were times i was eager for the next surgery just to get rid of the migraine chain from the prior surgery.
@55isMe Also, you dont have to stick to the med quantity limits imposed by insurance. My doctor makes out a 2nd prescription for the 90 day (so it doesnt conflict), then my pharmacist processes it not via insurance. Also one of the reasons i stick with Imitrex, you can cut the tablets. So the insurance company's 9 a month last 27 days and only need to fill the other prescription periodically.
I have chronic migraines lasting sometimes for weeks. One of the things that helps is called an ice hat there are several types and brands several places Amazon, Walmart, etc. Meds talk to your doctor about treatment but keep the ice hat in your backpacker it can be used warm or cold so feels really nice on hot days.
Hi Peyton! I was diagnosed with chronic migraines and epilepsy. Migraines will last DAYS for me and cause vomiting on most occasions. Because I was diagnosed I was given medication for it, so if this is a reoccurring problem I'd say talk to a doctor when you're feeling better, but for me I would go into a dark room, and if required I'd put earbuds in to drown out the noise. Sometimes soft noises in the background or meditation podcasts would help me relax... If permitted. If not, I wouldn't say rely on Excedrin or Advil, but it's definitely a good friend in a lot of cases. Hopefully this helps! Get feeling better!
