Dealing with Anxiety: My Journey So Far

Hi everyone. So I've been dealing with anxiety for about 5 years now. It started when I had a false alarm heart attack scare during a long depressive episode after not taking care of myself and eating unhealthy. Ever since, I've been hyperaware of my body, feeling like any small ache on my chest and left arm is a heart attack, any headache can be a stroke, anytime my breathe gets shallow, that I'd feel like im dying and surfacing anxiety attacks very often. It's exhausting. I've also been working on my feelings of anxiety when driving far distances. I've had about 4 panic attacks in the middle of the freeway, having to pull over. I've learned to de-escalate by grounding and deep breathing, but it only does so much. I take Xanax if needed, but I don't want to depend on it. I tried Zoloft but it made me feel like I couldn't focus and it scared me so I stopped. I'm currently taking cbd gummies with a bit of thc but it's expensive. It's been a debilitating journey, making me scared to go and have fun outside my home because of the fear of having an anxiety attack. I've been feeling more depressed because I'm just feeling hopeless about not being able to find the best way to decrease my feelings of anxiety. I also feel guilty because it's affecting my relationship with my partner because I hesitate to go out, being scared of having an anxiety attack. I just wanted to share my story and hope someone understands.

Jomar. I feel like you've got your feet on the right path but you have to keep at it. I know it's hard. As far as the medication goes do you think you could get evaluated for PTSD? I think it might be helpful. Everyone: My therapist is certified is Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It is especially helpful for people who have experienced trauma. If you can find someone in your area who is certified in this it WILL improve your quality of life. If you want more information let me know and I'll send it to you.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I have been on some medication and not many have helped me, recently I have been trying to find other alternatives to help with stress. hi, my heart is here for you because i am known for cancelling for no reason other than being nervous i’ll have a panic attack while out. i want to say though, it’s mind over matter and you have a lot more control than you think. i think you should definitely talk and confide in someone you trust about this and keep going out at a minimal and with people you’re comfortable with for now :)

Hi Jomar. I understand what you're going through. I have PTSD and have had similar experiences. Seeing a good therapist is extremely important. If you and your therapist don't mesh well don't be afraid to go to someone else. Also don't try to decide for your partner how much it's affecting them and your relationship. Only they can do that. Communicating with them is essential. Your partner should be a part of your support group. Also don't be afraid to ask for help. I recently got an emotional support animal and she has made a huge difference in my anxiety level. I also adopted her from the shelter. Win-win.
