So this is my first post on here. I deal with very bad acid reflux even while eating an extremely bland diet. I currently take Pepcid, although it does not seem to be working. I'm wondering if anyone else with GERD experiences tightness and pressure in their throat that makes breathing feel restricted?

Chest pain

Dysphagia

Esophagitis-Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Generalized pain

See a ENT doc. Appears you have throat burn (you are beyond GERD). Your LES and UES are opened allowing acid likely to your mouth at night. What I learned is stop acid drinking/eating for 28 days! Never occurred to me but acid eating/drinking is triggering embedded dangerous pepsin into your esophagus/voice box/throat. This triggers severe burns and can leak into your lungs giving the problems you mentioned. Try to get ahold of, buy on Amazon, Acid Watcher Diet by Jonathan Aviv. It’s all about what you drink and eat. No Colas, Coffee, Alcohol, juices, citrus, fried foods, chocolates….good luck.

You need prescription PPI and allow it to heal you. Won’t work if you eat/drink acids. This is the answer to your problem. Tough to do but it is what it is.

my doctor put me on PPIs, told me to wait a few weeks and start reintroducing foods. I now know that was a mistake. I should have been strict on my diet still. I haven't healed after nearly a year on the medicine and now have to go strict not to get heartburn all day every day. So, this is sound advice.

..I’ve been drinking 3-5 cans of Diet Coke every day. I’ve been taking Pantaprazole for 4 years, off and on until I had swallowing issues, so I take a 40 mg everyday with no Diet Coke, alcohol, etc

I have for quite a while but didn't associate it with GERD diagnosis. I was unofficially diagnosed with very mild sleep apnea because I'm overweight and it only happens when I'm laying down. Might get that checked out again...

…i went to one of those sleep centers, each TOLD me I had sleep apnea and tried to sell me CPAP there. I left and solved the problem by losing weight & sleep with head/back up somewhat—bought adjustable bed so now never any sleep apnea or GERD pains.

I went through my ENT that I've seen since I was a teenager so he didn't try to sell me anything but did advice if I gained more weight, using a CPAP was going to become a necessity. I hate that your sleep clinic experience was so bad, it can be really helpful for many people. I've only done at home sleep monitoring.

Is there a permanent cure for this or will I just have to suffer with this for the rest of my life

you need to heal your throat by not eating/drinking acid for at least a month, allow prescription PPI to heal throat, then see how it goes. I don’t plan on not eating Mexican food or not drink beer my entire life, but eat/drink in moderation. I’m also in my month long, pain-in-butt not having what I want also but it’s what you have to do. Swallowing with pain & constantly clearing my throat: I want it to end over whatever I want to eat/drink. I thought it was stomach acid reflux—-at first it is but the swallowing issue is NOT that, you are passed that & have no choice. Again, reflux has decided to want to make your throat part of your stomach because you had it so long and it’s not healing. Pepsin (only found and should ONLY be in your stomach, responsible for breaking down food) has made its way into your throat—you need this back only in your stomach—how?: you have to heal 100%.

….and eating/drinking acidic stuff triggers Pepsin to eat at you leading cancer. Your body is telling you to stop the crap. Options… lol

I understand it's not healthy to have acidic things but just being on a bland diet sucks are there any other options besides that

    • Axle_Alike

…options? Wake up call Buddy. Next step= Barrons esophagus where your esophagus wants to be part of your stomach, leading to cancer & 15% survival.

Have to lose weight around your throat/neck/face to stop sleep apnea. That’s the root cause of it anyway. Many die in their sleep. Several 30-50 yrs old friends/family I know happened this way.

Can’t sleep with mask contraption—it’s silly and ridiculous.
