I did group & individual DBT for a year and it was quite helpful for me overall. It taught me a lot of good skills for my mental toolbox. Not everything that was taught there worked for me personally, but there's a lot to take away from it and I think anyone can benefit from it. One of the most helpful skills for me to manage my BPD intense emotions was the mindfulness, because it helped me be able to identify the feelings I was having and sort out my scrambling brain. They also have an entire module on emotion regulation, which is extremely helpful for the intense emotions. There are "assignments" to do along with it from the workbook, many of which are practicing the learned skills and applying them to your life and situations. We also kept a weekly sort of diary sheet, which mostly focused on which skills you used or practiced each day. Going to group therapy was an adjustment for me, but honestly it helped me feel not so alone in my mental situation. Plus the therapists running it were very lovely and patient, which was helpful. The leaders and the group were very supportive and understanding of everyone's different needs and situations. They celebrated small wins, which was a big deal for me at the time. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who is able. The workbook is available online for anyone who may be interested as well.
