how do you cope with obsessive thoughts? like my mind will bring up a random memory where I wasn't the best person and even though I'm trying to be better now I won't be able to stop thinking about it. or my thoughts argue with me on things like loving my partner or if I have an experience I question if it's real or I'm lying. I thought it could be a symptom of stress but I'm medicated now and it hasn't stopped. had anyone else experienced this?

My therapist had me set out an hour to listen to these thoughts and truly consider them. But otherwise if it wasn't time to talk to those thoughts like a nother person and be like 'Is it 8 pm yet? No? Thank you, but wait til then!'

I suffer from PTSD I have tons of flash backs on memories I want to forget. It’s pretty tough on a daily for me. Honestly, I pray. I know it sounds cheesy. If you ever want to chat I’m here. I suffer from chronic depression and severe ptsd but I always try to stay busy. Also facing trauma can help. Although difficult, but does seem to help a lot.

When I'm spiraling like that I try to focus on what's physically happening. What sounds you can hear, what you can smell, slowing your breathing, what your body feels like. It can be pretty hard to pull yourself out of the spiral but you can practice by grounding yourself throughout the day for short periods of time and it will make it easier to disengage from the thoughts over time, I'd recommend practicing whenever you're experiencing something pleasant like a nice blanket or your favorite drink. I've used this to pull myself out of a lot of bad mental moments, most recently I was able to stop a PTSD freakout before it ruined my day by focusing on my breathing and my physical self. It's not an easy tool to get good at, but it can work wonders.
