I just want to learn what others do to cope with serious chronic depression and how they motivate themselves. What is your secret if there is one? What medication has worked the best for you over the years? What makes you enjoy life more?

Depression/anxiety was only helped when I got a hobby that made me feel productive when I was stagnant. For me that was gardening. That was without medication.

i’ve been struggling too. I keep telling my psychiatrists motivation is my biggest struggle but I feel like they aren’t listening :/ but they’re the cheapest I can get with my insurance

@packersfan95 my first psychologist was like this. I changed because of my college and she took me very seriously. I really hope your psychiatrists start listening. Motivation is also my biggest struggle and is interfering with my life.

Wellbutrin has been helping me a lot. I can finally get out of bed and do stuff. I also try to have at least 1 thing to look forward to every week. This just keeps me going. It can be as small as buying yourself something sweet one day, or even just planning a FaceTime call with someone you like talking to

Medication is different for everyone! I can't speak to much because my depression is often bipolar oriented, but I found prozax makes me suicidal, Cymbalta can help with the pain that can come with depression, welbutrin can help with energy levels and if you have problems with over eating it can help. Zoloft seems to be good all around.

@livvie361 I've only tried 3 different antidepressants so I wanted to know others experiences with the others. Prozac made my mom crazy but works great for my aunts, she also hated Zoloft, and Wellbutrin makes me overly paranoid. So it's just nice to hear others experiences with one's I haven't tried yet.

@Honeybeela I can understand! And different meds work better for different folks! I genuinely recommend Cymbalta if you're having depression pains. And it's OK if you need to keep trying other meds as long as you remember some take as long as 3 months to fully work. And you may need to be on more than one. For a while I was taking zoloft and pristiq together
