What are the best ways to cope with having BPD? I am medicated, going through psychotherapy, and I have temporary distractions but I still find myself struggling with sudden and intense emotions, especially if something - no matter how small - upsets me in some way. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

There are plenty of meditation techniques that can help with swings in intense emotions. I use the app Balance which is currently free for a year. I use it just before I go to bed mostly but I'd I need to confront an intense swing of emotion it has come in handy. I am also doing everything you are doing and granted its taken me a long time. Also, dealing with your negative self-talk can change your perspective and ability to handle those emotions if your self-esteem is higher. It's not a simple fix but all of that really helps. I promise. Hope this is useful for you x

I would recommend dialectical behavioral therapy. It changed my life, especially when it came to emotional disregulation, rumination, and addiction.

"Being open with your close friends/family about what you go through can help a lot with maintaining relationships. Educating people can help you feel more validated and know that people aren’t going to leave you just because you are having an episode. Other coping mechanisms include journaling, reading books on the disorder, practicing mindfulness, breathing exercises, and finding a strong support system. Some individuals also find activities like drawing or art helpful as it allows them to focus and connect in a different way."
