Considering Birth Control Options: IUD vs Tubal Ligation

I am really wondering if I should get an IUD or get my tubes tied. I am 24, and so have never wanted to be pregnant, in fact the thought horrifies me. I can see adopting foster children later in life but I've never wanted to give birth. At the same time I'm worried I could change my mind since I'm still young. On the other hand, I know that being pregnant has a high chance of absolutely wrecking my body, which is really fragile to begin with. I also don't really want to pass EDS on to a child. I could just get an IUD, but the stories of pain and painful side effects have really scared me off. I deal with enough pain already. I'm on birth control for my periods anyway, but I'm worried it might not be enough to be sure, and if abortion is outlawed, for all I know birth control could be next. Is it reasonable for me to consider tubal ligation? Are IUDs as awful as I'm scared they would be?

I'm 33 now, but I had the same thoughts as you when I was that age and I wish I would have just gone through with it! You know what's best for your body!!! 💞 Best wishes!

I mean, I'm 24 and I'm having my 3rd consultation for tubal ligation at the end of the month. Finally found someone willing to do it. If you're unsure, try nexplanon. I've heard less severe horror stories about it and it's been pretty amazing for me (I haven't menstruated in years). I'm only considering taking it out because I miss my libido and I want a permanent option. Meanwhile my old coworker told me about her IUD. It tore though her uterine wall and now she can't have anymore kids. No clue how frequently that happens, but it scared the fuck outta me.

I never even thought about nexplanon but I'm going to look into it! An implant in my arm is much less scary than an implant in my uterus!
