Struggling to Communicate My Chronic Illness

I’ve struggled with communicating how much I’m really struggling and I end up with high expectation which leads me to either giving up or over exerting myself. Does anyone have any advice on telling the (healthier) people around you that your physically struggling? I don’t think people around me truly understand chronic illness.

Can you help? Connect today

It was hard to communicate even to myself what my limits were physically. I just wanted to push through and do the things I wanted to do but my body paid the price. I was sleeping 14hours a day and I stopped getting my periods because my body was under so much stress. I think a lot of people with chronic illness/invisible illness are gaslighted and told they are being dramatic, etc. from someone who doesn’t experience what they experience. If it’s related to school you can get things like an IEP/504 plan which might help you gain some accommodations. In regards to friends and family I hope you are able to have productive communication with your friends and family about how you feel and I hope they are supportive ❤️ If not you have support groups like these which I hope will help❤️❤️

it’s hard to admit you need help. personally i have a really close friend that i feel comfortable telling i’m not doing well and she’ll tell other people like my family to cut me a break. it’s important to surround yourself with healthy people. not everyone will understand your struggles but they should still respect your boundaries if you’re unable to do something. it’s not easy to admit you need help, surround yourself with loving and supporting people 💕
