Does anyone else notice special interests coming and going? This might be connected to ADHD too but idk. Like for example I've had a near lifelong Batman special interest but like...its not constant if that makes sense? I'll be very strongly fixated on Batman for a few years and then I'll have like a year or two where I don't think about it as much and in that time I can clear think about missing it and wishing I could engage in it like I used to but just can't reach it, and then something will cause it to come back. Is that common? Is there I way I can like...prevent the loss of sp-ins? I hate the feeling of abandoning them but I just can't reach them after a while and if possible I think I'd want to avoid that

@Filter Same here! I go through phases with my special interests where different ones take prominence for a while.

I’ve found that if I give it long enough I’ll usually come back around to most interests. I do bounce around a lot though.

I find that my special interests are all sorta connected and I try not to worry too much about it. I know I will come back to an interest and it will still be there.

I feel like a lot of my special interest come around when I need them the most. Like, a way to attach to something outside of everyday reality. Maybe reflecting on what got you into that sp-in in the first place would help prevent a loss of interest. Finding someone else to engage with on that sp-in might also be a good way to expand your knowledge and share your love of it.
