okay I don't know if this is common or not, but recently I've been really upset over other peoples messes. like just the other night I cleaned up my boyfriends entire room - for reference it's always been messy; trash on the floor, clothes on the floor, etc. - and it took two days but I was getting so anxious about it. and yet for some reason the idea of cleaning my own room makes me sick. I hate the idea of it changing, I'm just so used to it now but I know I have to clean it and I don't know what to do anymore

oh my God I understand, I love the idea of cleaning at work and other peoples places but I can't seem to clean my own apartment. if anyone wants to chat with me on this feeling I would love that. I never realized this was such a common thing to feel relating to ocd.

I feel this way too. Honestly, it helps to kind of trick yourself into enjoying it. I set a timer for 45 minutes, got high, and told myself I deserve a clean room. All I did was 45 minutes of cleaning and that’s it but I made a big dent in something that felt completely unmanageable. I also got my mom to help me, maybe get your boyfriend to help you out! He owes you now, lol!

Same. It is physically painful for me to ignore any mess in my household! My husband and stepson are both extremely chaotic and messy, and it is such a cause for friction. It impacts us daily. My mental health diminishes when the house gets messy too, so the chaos in my own room follows, where papers, belongings, and clothes pile up (my husband and I don’t co-sleep because I can’t stand the mess/chaos)… I feel like my anxiety / OCD is out of control.

Yep I've had the same experience I don't mind cleaning up for someone else or anything, but my own mess, no it makes me just nauseous just thinking about it. I don't know why you and I would be like this is just something with OCD I suppose
