Tips for Cleaning My Room?

Does anyone have any tips on trying to clean rooms? I’ve been stuck in a constant loop of trying to clean my room but it never gets finished. Recently I’ve decided that in order to start getting better I need to clean my room but I’ve just never been able to

Can you help? connect today

Definitely like to go by the book "How To Keep House While Drowning" by KC Davis. There's only a few things in a room, dishes, laundry, trash, things that have a place and things that don't.

Some people start a timer and clean for that time and see how they feel and I'd they want to continue. Motivation can be a hard one too, I've been having a tough time myself. Be kind to yourself.

I find that focusing on 1 thing a day helps 😌

I tend to blast music until my motivation runs out

I pick up the trash first so I don't have to worry about it. It's my go to first thing.

I usually do it in sections, as well as putting a YouTube video on of someone else cleaning their room lol. It does help. I've also got an app called Habitica which helps with rewards. I used it for a few weeks before I forgot about it but it did really help

Have a friend come over and just sit there and chat while you clean. I find it helps me with productivity when someone I care about it watching me do it (and I feel pressured to get it done faster because I feel bad that they’re just standing there lol)

I talk on the phone while cleaning or listen to a podcast.

Just do one thing at a time when you have the energy and motivation to do so. The idea of cleaning the whole room can be overwhelming. So put a few articles of clothing away (or just one) or wash a few dishes. Pick up a few pieces of trash etc. Don't try to do everything all at once. You can also try just cleaning one section at a time. One part of the floor or the whole floor, or a corner, dresser, counter, etc. Little steps contribute to the whole.

Gameify it!! Listen to pumped up music, imagine the end goal, think of it like interior design or room redecoration rather than a chore. But make sure it’s a habit. Same day same hour—whatever it is—because as soon as you miss a day, you’ll start giving yourself lenience and won’t get back into the groove.

I’d say take your time!!! Set aside a day to do this in the weekend or several hours. Baby steps, be patient with yourself. Music always helps me too. And by the end of cleaning i feel accomplished i did something difficult
