Chronic Strep Throat in Adults: Tonsillectomy Worth It?

Has anyone gotten chronic strep throat as an adult? I’m 23 y/o and get strep multiple times a year. Wondering if it’s worth it to get my tonsils removed but I know it’s a really painful recovery when you’re older..

I got my tonsils removed because it got to the point where I couldn't breathe out of my nose anymore, I was so infected. Drank a lot of cold drinks and had a lot of ice cream afterward, and it was pretty painful, but it helped a lot as far as my speaking voice and being able to breathe again. I had an extreme case, but potentially, it could prevent your case from getting extreme again too. The only real downside I had was some scars up the inside of my cheeks and my tongue from the metal clasps they used to make my mouth stay open, but that's probably more the incompetence of the people who performed my surgery than anything else. In the end, it's up to what you decide

I’ve had the issue a bunch of times growing up and even now I still get it sometimes. Honestly it’s up to you. The pro is you wouldn’t have to suffer from the throat pains anymore. The con is the recovery would probably be pretty uncomfortable. I’ve never had mine removed but then again it’s completely up to you. You might still get it from time to time especially if you suffer from allergies or bronchitis etc. usually for me I take couch drops or I have something hot to drink and then I wait it out. Whatever you decide to do I hope you feel better soon ^^
