New to the Group with Chronic Pain and Upcoming Surgery

Hi all! I’m new here. I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, asthma, and degeneration of my spine. I also have a torn rotator cuff and surgery is scheduled for 10/27. I’m looking forward to the surgery, but not the pain I know will be amplified because of fibro during recovery. Anyway, I just wanted to say “Hi”.

I have Fibromyalgia also. Need two carpal tunnel surgery coming up. Traumatic brain injury from 3 years ago. I torn my rotator cuff too. I don’t know your age I am 66. Have artificial left hip so I know what Fibromyalgia did after that surgery. Everyone from doctors to friends and family said don’t do it. It is painful and recovery takes forever. Girl friend had it done months of recovery. I will pray for ya!

Thank you! I am 47 and thankfully my hubby has a good job and I don’t have to work, so I can concentrate on recovery.

I obviously dont know if it will work for you, but i find that it helps to go into surgery feeling the best you can. Ex: i will take extra Imitrex as close to surgery as possible because going into surgery with a migraine has resulted in huge migraines for weeks afterwards. Another example, i went to physical therapy to work on my frozen shoulder before a different surgery as it was less other pain and more mobility. It only helped like 20%, but i do believe it helped in recovery.
