Dealing with Chronic Pain and Misdiagnosis

First I was diagnosed possibly with carpal tunnel when they did their testing for that things didn’t look like it was carpal tunnel so then I was referred to rheumatology at the time things seem to be going in that direction I started taking all the medication and I was able to get back to work but seven months into work a month or two in that timeframe my hand condition of swelling and pain continued on and off to the point where I had to stop work again now the Rheumatologist is thinking that this could be complex regional pain syndrome but she’s not 100% sure my primary doctor just put me on the gabapentin I’ve been on it for a few days now and have seen some small changes in my hand and the condition but I have good days and I have bad days I also have some mental issues that I am taking care of by communicating with a counselor nobody seems to know what is going on but now they’re coming to a conclusion that I need a neurologist I have been misdiagnosed too many times and I’ve been dealing with this for a year and unfortunately it has kept me from working if anybody knows or has similar issues of swelling pain warmth and nerve pinching sensations you know if there’s anything that you have gone through that might be able to give me some answers that would be great thank you

I don’t have answers, but do want to say that you are not alone. I am on the same multi-year journey to explain strange swelling and pain and other symptoms (thought maybe carpal tunnel). I was referred to rheumatology but they are uncertain and just keep monitoring. It feels like the waiting game. In the meantime, I wish I had more help and support in learning to cope with the day-to-day symptoms.

I completely understand where you’re coming from I haven’t been able to work either so that doesn’t help the situation and I’m working with a company that basically is denying me ADA accommodations because I have to fill out a form stating when and if I can come back at which I don’t have answers for it’s very frustrating when you don’t have anybody to understand what you’re going through so it is an easy and I just got referred to a neurologist and waiting for them to call me back to set up an appointment to see if this is something else my father still thinks that I have RA but I don’t know what it is that I have but this is been going on too long and it’s very frustrating I wound up going outside this afternoon and sitting in the back patio trying to calm myself down which I think it helped a little bit plus I had some stress relief tea
