Feeling Guilty for Taking Time Off Due to Chronic Pain

Woke up this morning with a sore throat and my fatigue feels like I’m amplified by 100. Regardless, I still feel guilt for not working 24/7 or being “busy”. I’m not sure why but it always make me feel horrible for just taking time off for myself. The last couple months of school I missed a bunch of days because of chronic pain and I always feel the need to explain myself, like my illnesses aren’t enough. I’m preventing chronic pain, not lazy. Though I can’t make myself believe it. Anyone else?

Yes! I feel the same way all the time, I think I especially feel that way because I haven’t been officially diagnosed with anything but we’re pretty sure I have CFS

Haven’t related to any 1 post more. In fact, the more I speak in private with people coping with CFS, they mention the same feelings! We pretty much all struggle with this. I like to think when I’m out in public that someone else is fighting the same fight but it’s so invisible I’d never know!! Helps me feel way less guilty & way less alone. Take your sigh of relief, and your rest when needed. It’s not all in your head & you’re not alone.💖💝

Yeah, I feel this way too! Society puts a LOT of pressure on "being busy" in my opinion, sometimes I am busy enough taking care of myself. And I am learning to be okay with that.

Yep you said it perfectly. I also miss a lot of school and feel so guilty. It’s hard but we need to remember that without rest we will just feel worse and miss even more days!
