Struggling with Chronic Illness and Identity

Hello! I am an elementary teacher, a mother of younguns, and a chronic health sufferer, as you would know! My pre-health-problems personality was bright and optimistic, and I struggle to reconcile who I wish I still was with who I am now, and who I will become.

Oh it's so hard sometimes. I try to still do the things that helped me be that person, just in smaller doses and with some modifications. I'm no longer the first mom on the playground, but I can still push a swing.

Sometimes I’m so grateful for my kids, especially my 8 yr old daughter, because in my darkest health days, taking care of her gets me out of my pity party. But sometimes I wish I could take care of only myself, just for a day or two.

that's understandable. My daughter definitely helps lift my spirit. I just feel so guilty that I can't do more with her (out of the home)

Hey there! I can relate. I have a 7 yr old daughter. Got diagnosed with T1 at age 4 (25 yrs ago) and while it hasn't always been easy, the last 2 years have definitely been the hardest.
