Chronic Constipation: Need Tips!

Anyone out there have tips for chronic constipation?? I have gastroparesis and am on a low fiber diet. I take zofran too which is linked to constipation. It’s getting so bad !! I can’t take Mirlax and otc “gentle” laxatives are not gentle at all on me!! I go maybe once a week and I struggle even then. I’m getting very bloated and it’s painful. Please someone have any advice 😭

have you tried taking a 1/2 or 1/4 dose of miralax? I can't take a full dose or I might as well have downed an entire ex-lax chocolate bar, but dropping down to 1/4 dose helped to at least make it more like I took a normal dose of laxatives lol

Have you tried castor oil? That stuff will get you moving like that. If you haven't already which I bet you have visit a Gastroenterologists. Lower you stress that can cause bad constipation, get a massage, take a Epson salt bath, drink your water, and I find at times when I'm constipated I realized I did the most on fiber maybe eating a lot of fiber is not for you. Have you tried cutting out certain foods? Vit d helps with constipation

I started on Remron 3 weeks ago ... it's marketed as a psych med but thru research I found alot of people with gastroparesis try it and it helps with symptoms. So far I have started 💩 5-8 times a day. Prior to the med I was only going like once a week. And prior to developing gastroparesis I had severe ibs-d and would 💩 no lie between 15-25 times a day regardless of how much or how little I ate ...

Have you tried prune juice ?The taste is not wonderful but it works well if you drink usually one large glass or 2 -3 smaller ones. Doesn't usually have any adverse reactions all natural but read your juice jar and ask your doctor before trying.

You could also try taking some Simethicone tablets to relieve the bloating, it basically breaks up the gas in your stomach / intestines to relieve some of the pressure. That’s been a LIFESAVER for me having to get through feedings with Gastroparesis.

When my constipation is at it’s worst (frequently) I usually take Magnesium Citrate. It’s this bottle of Magnesium that essentially works as a laxative, but like a LAXATIVE. A more gentle option you can try is Milk of Magnesia. It technically isn’t sold as a laxative, it’s sold as a treatment for heartburn and reflux similar to Tums (which is why it might be better) but it works similarly to Miralax in that it draws water into your intestines which should help soften things up!

I feel ya on being careful what meds you can take. I can't even remember all the ones my gastrologist has had me on and none of them helped it just made the pain worse and still not movement. So I saw a pelvic floor physical therapist and have found some relief.

I'm on medication for mine, it's called linzess. At first my constipation was so bad I couldn't go on my own at all and was relying on laxatives, but with linzess I'm usually going once a day. It's not perfect, I still have symptoms but this definitely helps

I was giving an enema at the hospital because my constipation got so bad felt like I was going to explode and I was in a lot of pain and it relieved me some but not enough when I do go to the bathroom my bowels are not emptying out all the way and it makes me hurt like hell when they do move already was hospitalized for blockage in small intestine pretty sure it was due to the issues I'm having last gastroenterologist said I had what was called rectocele just want to go to bathroom like a normal human

I find that when your about to go, drinking a big glass of water usually helps me. Also breathing exercises as well! Definitely makes things a lot easier. Fruit juice, and ginger also helps but water is better

Good morning I feel your pain I was just recently diagnosed with rectocele and I am so constipated is not even funny I have been on fiber supplements I've been taking miralax I've been doing whatever I need to do to try to get me to go to the bathroom but when I do go it hurts like hell everything that I eat makes me blown out and makes me hurt I am so sick of not being able to go to the bathroom if I could get some tips on what else to do that would be great I've had all kinds of tests done and just recently when I went to see this last gastroenterologist he's the one that diagnosed me with having rectocele I was hospitalized at the end of January because my small intestines had a blockage in it I'm pretty sure it's due from not being able to go to the bathroom properly so I do feel your pain if I find out any more information I will share it with you have a wonderful day

Have you heart of the" squaty potty"?? Look it up 100% could help. Stretching and exercise helps constipation due to active movement; it helps out the intestinal flow. Drink a ton of water and maybe a single laxative could do the trick!

My husband is on a new trial medication for his chronic migraines, and the worst side effect is constipation. He has to use a saline enema anytime he wants to go. It’s not a drug, but it works wonders! I’ve used them before myself for post-op constipation

I actually haven’t tried. I have a very sensitive body so I’m a bit apprehensive when it comes to trying medications that can worsen my nausea 😅 I’ll probably look into colace

I don’t know much about Epsom salts, I had no idea they could be used to help constipation

Magnesium worked well for me when I had chronic constipation. I was chronically constipated for close to 30 years because of the medication I take. Now, as of the past year, I’m actually having the opposite and have a colonoscopy scheduled soon to find out what is wrong.
