I was just diagnosed with celiac yesterday. It was my third endoscopy, after the first two came back inconclusive. I had a hard time yesterday because I had very little food in my house I could eat, but also wasn’t able to go to the store. I’ve joined some Facebook groups that give advice about celiac, but I was just wondering if there was anything you wish you knew when you were first diagnosed. I’m not new to confusing and overwhelming diagnoses, and always find that hearing from people who have the same thing is helpful! Thank you for any advice!

When first diagnosed with celiac, it can be helpful to know that there are many gluten-free options available nowadays. Planning ahead when going out to eat and using apps like FindMeGlutenFree can make dining out easier. It's also important to communicate your allergy to restaurant staff to ensure they take proper precautions. Remember that it might take some time to adjust, but you'll eventually find a new routine and favorite foods.

I found a dietitian helpful in showing me the different varieties of gluten free foods available

@LouB thank you! I saw one yesterday but she wasn’t very helpful so I’m going to look for someone new!

An important thing that wasn’t stressed enough when I was first diagnosed was how important it is to avoid cross contamination! It was one of the reasons I didn’t get better. Good luck!

@frogs thank you! My parents keep insisting a little gluten or something contaminated is okay, but everything I see says it isn’t!
