Tips for Coping with Insomnia and Vivid Nightmares?

anyone have tips for insomnia/vivid nightmares? I’ve tried a lot of coping skills & im currently off meds (in process of finding a new psychiatrist) and jw if there’s any tips out there for things that might help in the meantime? it’s been weeks since I’ve had a decent night of sleep

I have a medical marijuana card for pain but it honestly helps sooooo much with sleep too! It helps me fall and stay asleep, and I either don’t have or don’t remember my nightmares when I use it right before bed! If you can’t get THC I really recommend trying CBN, that one doesn’t help so much with falling asleep but it helps you stay asleep once you get there!

How long have you been using THC? I used it every night when my PTSD was most severe. I went from waking up multiple times a night from nightmares to maybe once a week. But it stopped being as effective after 6 months since I couldn't manage to take breaks to prevent building a tolerance.

When you can get to a doc, maybe ask about trazodone. It really helps me get through the night without intense dreams. I noticed in myself that if I ate a full meal, or sugary food/drink, or used a stimulant like caffeine or a sativa strain of cannabis before bed, I was more likely to have nightmares and intense dreams.

I know some apps can help, like Rootd, and it helps with sleep, panic attacks, anxiety and breathing. Its really nice of you want to listen to something you can imagine. Okay, scratch that, I knew one app. Hope it helps.

I know for my vivid nightmares, I take 5 HTP (serotonin supplements) and it has definitely stopped them from happening most of the time. I went from a vivid nightmare almost every night to one every few weeks (probably from stress)

I literally just went through this with my psychiatrist. He placed me on a medication that’s suppose to help with vivid dreams and such but you have to watch your blood pressure very closely. A lot of things trigger mine and thankfully with this it hasn’t.

the blood thinner that they happened to find also helps with this right? Good luck, I tried that for my vivid nightmares and it was so bad I was dizzy even when laying down.

I can only sleep when I have noise playing, usually let's plays. Before I started meds, the things that helped me best with nightmares was when I woke up I had a dim light on and something to calm me down and ground myself. I like sour candies when I wake up with panic attacks.
