Managing Eczema Itching: OTC Options?

What do you use (OTC) to manage itching caused by eczema? My head and legs have been itching like crazy lately and I'm scheduling a dermatologist appointment next week but I'd like something to help me cope in the interim.

When I get sudden flares, I cool down the heated feeling with ice. I use Cetaphil as my moisturizer - I find it doesn't hurt with open cuts (and there's a generic CVS version that is the same). I use Vaseline on dry areas to keep them moist but only sometimes since the oily-ness is annoying.

Aveeno has been the only thing that has ever worked for me. They've added shampoo to their line as well

SkinMD lotion is the only lotion that’s actually helped it. I can only find it online lately, but it is SO worth it. And one bottle lasts a long, long time. You need to put it on several times a day for the first few days, but eventually you can cut it down a bit. I’ve had horrible eczema since I was a baby (late 20s now), and it is literally the only OTC thing that’s helped. (I’ve only had one prescription that’s helped, too. 😩)

After many years since 13 of suffering allergy and eczema I ditched all the stuff my doctor gave me as thought if my skin that sensitive to every thing why then are they giving me pile of chemicals to put on it, so did research and now only use chemical free natural and organic skin products, since then about ten years ago I hardly have any symptoms or itching so win win,

If there is no cracked or broken skin you could try aloe or cortisone cream. You may also need to use lotion, as cortisone cream can dry out the skin. For itchy scalp, I like to use shampoo that contains tea tree oil. HOWEVER, my itchy scalp is unrelated to my eczema, so if you have actual eczema on your scalp, maybe research first and make sure tea tree shampoo would be safe for you to use. Hope this helps!

For closed skin that isn't super red and irritated, I use menthol gel. My rashes are more like dry skin patches and bumps and the cooling sensation often helps stop the itch along with a little topical steroid if needed
