Does anyone else get the sensation that they can't take a full satisfying breath? I get into these spells where I can only take a deep breath with a yawn (and sometimes that doesn't even work). I also have constant throat clearing and cough - neither which do anything. It's happened to me for years and doctor's can't figure it out. Is it my anxiety? I can only sometimes calm it down by laying down on my side.

Hi there,🤗 i have similar symptoms. I found that doing meditation, deep breathing exercises including yoga and qigong as well as nature walks helped with the anxiety and shallow breathing. Over time, i felt like i could breathe better. (Its been about 3-4 months?) But i have had these allergy,(sinus stuff) coughing for a while. It was first triggered by mould where i hung my laundry. How are you going now? What has worked for you? 🙏

My mom had similar symptoms when she had what I think she called "leaky gut syndrome?" I could be confusing that name with something else It mostly affected her throat & sinuses. It was like having allergies constantly but she also had a hard time breathing fully and felt as if her neck was jutting into her airway (it wasn't). She did a Keto diet & that got rid of the (glucose?) buildup in her stomach & symptoms. It's a difficult diet to follow though, very strict for 10 days, less strict for a month, and then low-carb to prevent it building up again. I'm not explaining the condition well. Basically it caused pain, lots of inflammation, and "allergies" that make you clear your throat & cough & stuffy nose. So something to look into! A functional medicine doctor might be able to help if it's something like that. I personally hate when others suggest diet to me bc more serious conditions need to be ruled out first to get the right treatment. That was the first thing I thought of when you said Drs couldn't figure it out yet. Other than that it reminds me of asthma and allergic reactions. If others you live with are having the same thing, could be mold as well? Don't be afraid to keep pushing your Drs though to look into uncommon conditions! You know your body best!

@Dorkasaurus thank you so much! I do also have asthma and allergies so it certainly could be a combination of EVERYTHING. It's tough because it makes me so exhausted and dizzy. I can't function normally which makes it very difficult to chase around my 6-year-old! I did take medicine for GERD but then stopped when they said it was causing cancer for people (ugh).

I have dealt with this same issue since my tween years .. I know anxiety can cause tightness in the chest and throat sometimes I try not to freak myself out when it happens because that definitely makes in worse in my experience.
@dezismelancholy thank you! It's such an awful feeling. Of course, it creates a terrible cycle because then I only get more anxious!
@bobbijo I understand that feeling well I used to work myself into an anxiety attack over the feeling I sometimes still do if it happens after I've woke up from a night terror. What helps me the most though is just taking slow breaths and kind of rub my throat and chest to try and relax that area.
