Struggling with Bipolar Diagnosis and Stigma

my psychiatrist has officially confirmed i have bipolar, but can't officially diagnose or medicate me because of how my mother reacts. she has a bad stigma due to her abusive bipolar ex husband. i have to wait another year until im able to safely get my diagnosis and medication.

I just want to point out that a lot of bipolar meds are approved for other mental or physical illnesses as well. Maybe give those a try?

I’d think that would be a motivator to get you what you need. As a mother I can understand… you never want your kids to go through anything bad. But ignoring it does not help. Also as a person with Bipolar… getting the right medications and therapy treatment has been life changing. I hope she has a change of heart. Hang in there 🤗
