Does anyone else with beta thalassemia intermediate have complications or symptoms that the doctors seem to blame on something else like depression and you feel like your getting nowhere?

For some reason my dr told me a 9 wasn't low enough but I'm looking for a second opinion... Do you feel like the thalassemia effects your everyday life? Does the infusions help at all?

I don't know why they would tell you that. Do u have symptoms from a low hemoglobin? Yes. I think it does effect every day life for me because I have complications from it.

Hi, I also have bata thalassemia intermediate. I think It does effect the quality of my life. My hemoglobin is at 9 but my doctor says that isn't low enough for a blood transfusion. What was your hemoglobin at?

From what I heard from my doctor you should be able to live a normal life. But if you have to give blood or anything. Just tell your doctor that you have beta thalassemia so they can understand your blood more.

Everything for me seems to be normal. For me. The thing with beta thalassemia is that it might show that your blood has low iron but it doesn't. So usually you have to explain that to the doctor. And the reason for the beta thalassemia is when one parent has normal blood and the other parent has the thalassemia trait or thalassemia.

Ok. Whats your hemoglobin? I have gotten gallstones from it and was put on blood transfusions and wasn't chelated til recently and now have iron overload.

I have beta thalassemia and it doesn't do anything. From what I heard from my doctor it shouldn't cause anything or do anything to your body. I mean sometimes it will show that you have low iron in your blood but that's about it.
