I got diagnosed with a mri and ct scan
Luckily after I had paralysis in my right leg my pcp referred me to a neurologist. After the neurologist asked me a few medical questions about my history he said I had Ms. I was 19 and didn't really know anything about ms. Once I had an mri to be sure it was confirmed. Apparently I was very fortunate compared to the horror stories from others.
(Even tho I do have brain lesions, they were stable at the moment so lumbar was the the confirming test)
Here in Los Angeles I was diagnosed with MS by a neurologist who is also a researcher. She said gold standard for diagnosis is MRI plus the lumbar puncture. I went to another neurologist and he looked specifically at my lumbar puncture results to confirm I *really* had MS.
@CaliS I have many symptoms that could be MS but my brain scan in 2019 didn't show any lesions? No spine mri or spinal have been done yet. I have had multiple flare ups of symptoms come and go over the past 5 years. Also I had Epstein Barr virus in 2003. If it's not MS I am truly at a loss for words about all I am going through??

@LisaT89 sorry for the delay? I don’t check this app often. Years before I developed MS , I was diagnosed with CFS /ME. Since being diagnosed also with MS, it has taken time to clarify but they are not the same thing. I was kinda hoping my CFS symptoms were undiagnosed MS. Alas I have 2 autoimmune conditions. EBV has been implicated in both CFS and MS. I wonder if that is what you’re experiencing. If it’s still around, there used to be a very active online forum for CFS called Phoenixrising. The founder Cort Johnson has now started his own blog Healthrising, excellent well researched. Articles on the science and latest research onCFS and associated conditions (long COVID,fibromyalgia etc etc)

The gold standard for an MS diagnosis is an MRI with & without contrast dye. A spinal tap is sometimes used to confirm a diagnosis, but is not necessary most of the time. The presence of Oligoclonal protein bands in one’s spinal fluid indicates MS.
