I depends on the person and there are lots of different types of anxiety medications. Some help all the time and others are taken as needed. For me, Effexor has been hella helpful for my OCD.

I took Ativan when I was first diagnosed with anxiety, and it would help with panic attacks but then I would get really emotional afterwards. Now I take trazodone at night because it helps me fall asleep
