How long have you been battling anxiety?

I am just curious as to how long everyone here has been battling anxiety? For me it's been 16 years. It so hard for me because I would think that after all these years, I would have learned how to deal with it better. Somedays it just really kicks my butt. Makes me feel so frustrated. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Anxiety is the worst. πŸ˜“πŸ˜“

Since primary school 10-11 or maybe even bellow. In the tests we had I'd have panic attacks till I threw up and blacked out vision. Cried till my eyes stung. Reoccurring insomnia and intense panic attacks from fear of the dark and nightmares. I'm interested in if this is common.

My anxiety has been super bad these past 3 weeks. I believe that the winter and the Holidays play a huge part in it. πŸ˜₯

It's a constant battle with you and your brain. Everyday. I wish more people understood what we actually go through on a daily basis. πŸ˜₯

I've been diagnosed with gad since my late teens. I have a lot of trauma to process. After three years, I finally have insurance again, so I can find a therapist. It's hard. I hate it so much.

What are you diagnosed with? I can not even imagine dealing with all of that. I also agree with you on the stigma associated with "hard drugs"... People who abuse them, ruin it for people like us who need them. I tried explaining to my Doctor that it is literally the only drug that works for me. Xanax that is. But yet, I still am not able to get even a full month's subscription. πŸ˜₯

@Zane, I can't even believe how bad the Welbutrin messed with me. It was awful.

Mellio.... It's so crazy, but I have only been off the Welbutrin for 2 days and I already notice a HUGE difference. It's rough when the Doctors decide to add or change a medication. The Wellbutrin made my anxiety SO much worse. I am just going to stick with what I know and try to handle my anxiety a little better. I am done trying to mess with my meds.

Mellio, I was switched a few times over the years. I started with Paxil. I don't even know if they use that anymore. Then there was another one, but I don't remember. The ones I currently take for my anxiety are Venlafaxine, Propranolol and Alprazolam as needed. The Doctor had added Wellbutrin last month, but I just stopped it yesterday. It made my anxiety way worse. I just hate that it takes so long to find the right meds. I'd give anything for the anxiety to just not be in my life anymore. πŸ˜₯

I think it's been there my entire life, and was chalked up to "shyness" when I was really little. I wish I had some advice for you. I'm on Escitalopram now for a few things and just hoping it starts to help

avatar

Shelly43

It's normal to switch off an anxiety med after a while. It stops becoming effective. I had to switch a couple of times in the past 15 years. Or bring the dosage up. It's an ongoing battle. I genuinely hate it so much. It does make it easier to talk to other people who deal with it. πŸ’•πŸ’•

Mellio**** It is tough. The whole struggle with anxiety is rough. I just wish nobody had to experience it. The worst part is when other people just don't understand it. πŸ˜₯
