Backwards Eye Contact: Anyone Else?

Does anyone else feel like their eye contact is backwards? I usually end up staring at someone in the eyes instead of looking anywhere else. I'm afraid that when I finally get tested they'll say I'm not because of it..

I’ve found that i’m not super uncomfortable with eye contact, it’s just that I can’t gauge when to use it. I either stare way too long and intently or not at all. But I’m always thinking about eye contact in one way or another so I can’t pay attention to the conversation anyways.

I find that I personally stare at people as a way to (over) compensate for not wanting to look them in the eyes at all. Either way it makes people uncomfortable so it’s still a social aspect I struggle with. Hopefully you have a knowledgable person who knows how variant the spectrum is and ways we mask. Don’t be afraid to get another opinion

From my own experience I’ve learned that not all people on the Spectrum have the same symptoms. Additionally, this could also be a result of social conditioning and/or masking. The main thing is to remember that you and I are on a spectrum. A spectrum is defined as a wide range. Meaning that there is plenty of room for varying symptoms. Who knows it could just be an outlier. If one professional questions your diagnosis maybe seek a second opinion. But always remember your feelings are valid and meant to be felt. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.
