How can I find better ways to avoid meltdowns in public?; What can soothe me in the moment?

There are all the basics like deep breathing, making sure you're fed and hydrated, having someone safe with you, but I like to do some woo woo shit, too. I have a collection of small stones/crystals, and when I go out, I choose which to keep in my pocket for the day. Holding them is really calming. I have a ring from my partner that I never take off to remind me he's with me, and all sort of other talismans. I carry essential oils. I have counting and tapping techniques from my therapist, as well as affirmations to repeat to myself. I'm happy to chat these if you like.

When you feel like crying, stop to take a moment to recollect yourself. Take a moment or two to take full breaths. When I start crying, I have to resist the urge to succumb to my emotions. I do that by getting out of that focus and "disconnect" from the thoughts that make me upset. Look at something else like a dog walking by, or people eating in a cafe.
