Struggling to Recognize Tics with Autism and Tourette's

Does anyone with autism and Tourette’s struggle to recognise when they are starting to tic if it is only slightly? Like for me, I’ll start constantly clearing my throat or blinking and won’t recognise it as a tic because it feels like I really do need to clear my throat, or it feels like I have something in my eye. I don’t always recognise my tics as a tic if that makes sense. Then people get annoyed at me when I don’t use my distraction techniques and wonder why I don’t “just do it, coz it’ll help”. Just wondering if this happens with anyone else, so I can maybe feel a bit less alone in this.

I've never had someone put it into words that I can understand before. Yes absolutely! And even then when I do realize I'm ticking, sometimes I feel it's better to let it be. It bugs me to much when others need to knit pick every single move I make as a tic even if it is or isnt

I completely get it. Im not so sure if i have Tourettes syndrome but i do tic(by throwing my head back i think it’s called neck jerks??) but sometimes i have this feeling like a shiver on my neck/spine that runs down my shoulder like im gonna tic. Im so unsure why this happens and i read it can be a lot of reasons but i just call them tics. But you are not alone by having that feeling.

Yes, I totally get that!! I also have trouble sometimes telling if I’m stimming or ticking, especially when a new tic is cycling in. 😓

I personally don't have blinking or thorat clearing tics mine are more convulsing bad physically twitching if that makes sense but I get this because my head will be jerking or nodding softly sometimes and I won't notice
