I have Autism. I have never had an issue with showers until recently. I usually love showers, they are very peaceful and relaxing to me and I usually shower every day. As of this week showering is very overwhelming. Wet hair, the feeling of soap, the feeling of my skin after a shower, water in general. It’s all very very overwhelming. Does anyone know any tips on managing this or working through this? I’ve never dealt with showers/baths being overwhelming before.

I use bath lights in the water and music on the side outside but still in the bathroom. This works great for me as it’s a sensory distraction

I cannot help but to think if there is something deeper here. When I dread the shower? I quickly hop in. Deep breathing and gentle washing so my skin doesn't feel over whelmed.
i am not diagnosed with autism but it is largely suspected i do. this was a big issue for me when i was younger. it may sound silly, but what if you had a distraction, some kind of stimulus? i can't think of what but that's what comes to mind. and when you get out of the shower, maybe put your hair in a towel as soon as possible or start drying it with a hairdryer as soon as possible? the skin sensation i know very well and usually try and make myself feel less rubbery and ... taut? i don't know how else to describe it? is using moisturizer and lotion. other texture helpers: baby oil OR even baby powder.
