I'm Autistic and I'm looking to become more independent. I didn't learn these skills in school as I should have and my mother is too busy to teach me herself. Any tips or steps to work on being independent? Such as money handling, food preparation and learning to drive?

When it comes to driving i find having markers is good. So i memorize certain things such as “when the lines on the road intersect my hood at ‘x’ point i am on the right side of the line.” “If i can see the full front of a car in my rearview mirror and theres nothing in my blindspot, and its not expanding, i can get over.” Also if its anywhere in the budget blindspots and rearview cameras are worth it for the anxiety help. One last bit of advice look for the big rigs trucks and 18 wheelers (not uhauls or pickup trucks) if you have anxiety with merging or switching lanes. Ive found them to be a lot more gracious than the average driver. If you ever need to talk to somebody feel free to send a dm or tag or whatever it is on this platform 🤣

Ooh after thinking about it... When it comes to food prep I would make a week's worth at a time. My partner and I make easy things like chicken spaghetti and store it in the fridge. We usually make food on Sundays to make it easier for us to remember. Have easy lunch food like sandwiches and Kraft Mac and cheese in stock. Also, "safe food" aka food that's always good and easy for you... Keep this in stock because sometimes eating the same thing everyday doesn't sound good.

There are lots of YouTube videos available to watch on this subjects. I just did a quick search and found videos on making budgets, learning to drive, and cooking/ food prep.

My son, who is 21, was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. I can ask him for any tips if you would like. But I can tell you that in most areas, there are programs out there to help adults on the spectrum in various ways. Such as life skills, job hunting, etc. There are also various books available, try your local library. I hope you are able to find all you need. 🙏
