Seeking Advice on Getting Professionally Diagnosed with Autism

hello! sorry if this seems rude or strange for me to ask, but to those who actually have gotten professionally tested and diagnosed with autism, how did that process work..? i’ve only self diagnosed myself with it because of taking multiple tests online from different health organizations after a coworker who does have autism asked me if i had it as well from a variety of symptoms/behaviors i was showing, and getting “highly likely/near 100%” results on said tests. i’m really sorry if it’s wrong for me to ask this and put autism as something i have on my alike profile, but i wanted to reach out and hopefully get some answers and advice!!

I underwent a series of three interview-style appointments and questionnaires taken by my parents and me. The entire process only took about 3 months.

Hello, I just recently got tested for Autism after my therapist mentioned it. It is pretty simple to get tested, at least in the USA. I called a neuropsychologist and got on a waiting list. First, they had to rule out other possibilities, for example, I was diagnosed with ADHD in this portion of the test. Then I had to return for another test for autism because they said it was likely. The test was geared towards kids, I am an adult, so it was very playful. Anyways, that is how it was, I didn't need a referral or anything, I just called a place up. Anywho, take care!!

hi !!! i’m not really sure how it is for everyone, but i showed signs of autism at a very early age and got diagnosed through a neuropsych eval when i was about 10 or 11. i think the most important thing is to remember to take those online tests with a grain of salt. autism manifests differently in different people, and while diagnosing yourself can be a good start, there could be something you’re missing. if you have a therapist, i would talk to them about getting a neuropsych eval- and if you don’t, i’d recommend looking into some yourself.
