Explaining Autism Communication to Parents

how do i explain to my parents that my autism makes it so that they need to be very specific when telling me to do things? for context i am 18 and was diagnosed with autism a year ago and they’ve been ok about it but not super understanding about how much it impacts me, and my difficulties communicating out loud make it harder

Can you just ask them to do a step by step explanation? I don’t know about you but I prefer written instructions because I forget verbal instructions easily so I have people write down the details of the task down. Yeah it takes them time but it saves both of us in the long run if I can actually do the task and do it correctly. I have a notebook with detailed instructions for things like chores so I know how to do it and what they expect.

I don’t really have any advice for you but I have very similar problems with communication in that way.
