I find it hard to hear people/ what they're saying or I might mis-hear them even if it's not super noisy, but it's more likely to happen when there are lots of things/ sounds going on or I'm a little stressed/ overwhelmed. I'm pretty sure I'm autistic, but no diagnosis (and I think I'm fairly high-functioning). Any others experience this?

I experience the exact same thing. It's very common for autistic people to have auditory processing disorders. I wear loop engage earplugs so that I can hear people better.

I'm on the waiting list for a diagnosis, but it's extremely common for people with ASD and ADHD to experience this

Yes, many people with autism experience difficulty in understanding or focusing on conversations when there are multiple sounds or noises happening at once. This can be due to sensory overload or auditory processing difficulties, which are common among autistic individuals.
