Struggling with Words: Is This an Autism Thing?

IS THIS AN AUTISM THING? Okay so… I wanna use certain words in texts and such. However I learn most of those words from hearing other people use them, yeah? So like… my brain doesn’t actually fully know what the word means even if I actually do know what it means. Like I second guess myself. So basically I Google the most random, basic words, all the time to double check if I’m using them correctly. A lot of the time, Google definitions don’t make sense to me either but anyways. And like this is not just slang too. I just googled the word “niche” and still don’t understand what it means and that’s what sprung this up lol. Anyways sorry about the ADHD takeover here but is this an autism thing and does this post make any sense? Long story short, words are hard and don’t make sense… I stick to shorter, less complicated words most of the time

Idk if it’s an autism thing but I’m autistic and I also do this very regularly. I do this mostly with newer slang or common sayings that I can’t quite understand. Urban dictionary, as awful as it is, actually really helps with specific definitions and uses for me

Yep I do this all the time ... I have an amazing vocabulary yet I still double check and any word I hear I like for what ever unknown reason I look it up whether I already knew it or not

I'm in the same boat, the subconscious learning is definitely an autism thing but at the rate we learn subconsciously it's gotta be an adhd trait lol. Our minds move faster than our mouths, so it very well could be the same for our eyes and our subconscious is always active. There are things that I know that I don't even know where I heard them from

It is for me! I parrot what others say even if I don’t understand fully what it means. But then I get embarrassed if it comes to my attention that I’ve been using a saying or word wrong.
