Do Anxiety and Panic Attacks Always Go Hand in Hand?

Does having anxiety automatically mean you have panic attacks? I’ve been researching them, but never had one before

No I don’t have many panic attacks and have bad anxiety

Nope! There are also different kinds of anxiety. You can have anxiety and not have panic attacks though. I get them daily/almost hourly, but some people have anxiety and don’t get them at all.

Oh, I didn’t know that. How do you know if you’re having one?

Everyone is different but for me I get light headed, weak, nauseous, fast heartrate, short of breath and dizzy. A lot of people get like heart palpitations and sweaty palms and stuff. I think it manifests differently in everyone but mine always seems a sense of being “out of control” and I feel like it’s never going to end. I’ve had this my whole life and I am 28 now so I am able to manage it a lot better now but it can be scary. I used to vomit a lot when I was younger because of them but thankfully I am able to calm myself now. I’m sorry you’re dealing with anxiety. Panic attacks or not, it sucks and can be draining :(

I have one more question: You mentioned a fast heart rate. Most days my heart beats fasts without a reason and my hands get sweaty. Is that a panic attack or no?

I am not a licensed professional just want to preface this with that— but that could just be a general anxiety symptom and not necessarily mean a panic attack. I think panic attacks also come with that feeling of loss of control etc.

Ok, thank you so much for answering my questions 🤗

I'm also not a professional but personally panic attacks feel more episodic. If it's a more consistent thing, it could just be symptoms of anxiety. A panic attack is an episode kinda more like a heart attack. You might have heart problems and symptoms constantly but an actual heart attack doesn't happen as often.

It might be terrible to compare this to a heart attack because it can feel like you're having one

It's something that depends on person to person. I, myself, have anxiety, and get panic attacks. It really does different person to person.

No. I had my first one in middle school but I have one every now and then but if I have a panic attack now I get right on the edge of having one but I’m better at grounding myself through breathing exercises now.

No it doesn’t actually. And also consider whether you are having anxiety attacks or panic attacks. Anxiety attacks stem from an anxiety trigger while panic attacks will seemingly come out of nowhere.

I’ve had anxiety since I was a kid & I only recently started getting panic attacks
