What are Anxiety meltdowns?

Anxiety meltdowns, or autistic meltdowns as I know them, are when you are so overwhelmed by what's going on around you and your brain can't process anything that your behaviors change and you sort of shut down. Some of the behaviors I've exhibited include age regression (specifically, the flat-out refusal to leave my seat at a concert after it was completed), stimming (handflapping, leg bouncing, humming theme music), and complete shutdown (no response to anything outside of me). In my case, this happens so my brain can slow down and start taking in the information it needs to again. Hope this helps ❤️

@SillyGooseGoose thank you🤗 I need to bring this up my therapist. I have wondered if I’m autistic actually. But very good masker.

Anxiety meltdowns or autistic meltdowns are described as a response to overwhelming sensory experiences. Individuals may feel like their senses are so overwhelmed that they can't even use them, and it feels like their brain is trying to process everything at once. This can result in behaviors such as zoning out, having a tic attack, or needing to retreat to a quiet place to calm down. It's also noted that these meltdowns can be triggered by exhaustion.
