I'm thinking about going on anxiety meds. I really don't want to, but I feel like they might help me calm down.

It takes a minute but anxiety meds can definitely help. I originally didn't want to go on anxiety meds because I thought it would change me as a person but it's just made me calmer

Also look into the different ones. Prozac, Xoloft, etc. Each have their own side effects. They can also be used to treat depression and OCD.

Nothing wrong with taking meds for your metal health. As long as your happy and well that’s all that matters.

I also didn't want to take anxiety meds. I felt like taking them meant I had failed somehow. In truth, it just meant that my body isn't as equipped as others for self-regulating. It took a lot of effort to ask my doctor about it because I have always struggled with phone calls, but it was so worth it in the end. I don't worry so much anymore. I feel more capable of doing things. In fact, while I used to panic at the sight of bees and spiders, I not only don't panic about them anymore, but am even sometimes calm enough to interact with them. I'm also fortunate enough to not have any negative side effects from my medication. You didn't mention why you don't want to take the medication. Whatever it is, that is valid. Just make sure to ask yourself if that hesitancy is based on a legitimate concern or fear. Mine was just fear, so I took the step. I'm so much happier. Don't get me wrong - there are still some days that I get anxious. But I have found that I rarely get as anxious as before, and I'm better able to keep going even when I am anxious.
