Need advice on anxiety medication

hi. I recently had some major life changes including a move and I’m waiting to speak to a new psychiatrist. I have completely debilitating anxiety and I’ve been losing my mind waiting to speak to her. Ativan has been the most beneficial for my anxiety but if she won’t prescribe it, what else has similar effects? I’m nervous about having to start new medication as someone who’s tried a million things that just made me worse.

Ativan is a benzodiazepine. You can’t just stop taking it, so if this psychiatrist doesn’t want to specifically give you Ativan she will have to do one of two things: 1) give you refills until you are tapered off or 2) cross taper you to another benzo immediately. (I was cross tapered to Valium from Xanax XR). The only things that have really curbed my anxiety/panic attacks outside of benzos have been 1) a beta blocker like Propranolol, and 2) acupuncture. Good luck
