Hey there! I’ve been experiencing anxiety and IBS correlation for over half my life. When I was 13 I learned that my anxiety made me nauseous and gave me diarrhea. It’s a horrible vicious cycle, and coping has been difficult! Even in my 20s now I struggle. I try to manage my stress and anxiety, and funnily enough “placebos” help me the most. Chewing mint gum, sipping water, meditation apps, snacks, music, relaxing video games, fresh air, acupressure bands. I can’t leave the house without these coping mechanisms. It’s a learning experience and long journey, but the little things mean so much! Try to stay positive, be prepared, and manage your symptoms! Good luck!

I've had stomach pain due to anxiety personally I went on a heartburn reducer that definitely helps and also now on Zoloft as well to help well the stomach cramps that I was having these make it more manageable for my day

I technically have IBS due to anxiety. I find switching to tea helps. In my experience, it caused unbearable pain, so I was given a muscle relaxer to get it under control. Do not be alarmed if they do other tests! It's normal, and I experienced no issues.

@anxiousdude95 did they draw blood for u? i’ve had blood tests many times but it still causes lots of anxiety for me

Yes, I’ve been to a gastroenterologist and after many tests and even an endoscopy nothing seemed to be wrong. But I was still experiencing severe pain because of my anxiety and certain foods. I’ve recently got into the idea of trying hypnotherapy to help with my gi issues. It may be helpful for you too.

Yes, having gone to the doctors occasionally for the same reason. If its anxiety they wont see anything physically wrong. However the pain/discomfort is very much real due to anxiety tightening your stomach muscles.

@dianaengc have you found any ways to manage the pain?

@chickensoup Breathing techniques! Mainly, depending on what your doctor recommends, in my experience I was given sedatives to make me sleepy… so physical pain wasnt as burdening. (+ anti anxiety meds since the source of the problem is mental.) Sedative that worked for me is hydroxixine. It calms your physical symptoms, but of course it takes time to kick in and wont help your anxious thoughts. Getting your physical comfort levels normal comes first! Hope you and your doctor find something that works for you.

@dianaengc yes and honestly it’s so painful!
